Making a Masterpiece
A high-speed, precision milling machine carried out the cutting and worked on each side of the Platinum Jubilee large coin. It ran for almost 24 hours a day and the machinery was only paused periodically – to inspect the piece and wipe away swarf – and it took nearly 300 hours to produce the exquisite detail.
A Symbol of Wealth
The Lunar large coin was struck to commemorate the Chinese New Year with a spectacular piece of numismatic art. It features a tiger with every mesmerising detail enhanced by the size of this sensational coin. The Chinese character for tiger sits next to the majestic beast and on closer inspection, the character for king can be seen on its forehead.

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Moment
To mark the Platinum Jubilee, the experienced coinage artist John Bergdahl has created a commemorative portrait and a reverse design especially for the occasion. Reminiscent of the 1953 coronation crown created by Gilbert Ledward RA and the 2002 Golden Jubilee crown by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS, the portrait appears on the obverse of this coin and features Her Majesty on horseback.
