P .L. Travers’ iconic character Mary Poppins first blew in on an east wind to Number Seventeen, Cherry Tree Lane more than 90 years ago. Brought to life throughout the eight-book series in Mary Shepherd’s beautiful illustrations, this is the first time that the practically perfect nanny has appeared on a UK coin. Emma Noble, a product designer at The Royal Mint, has remastered an original illustration from the books for the reverse of the coin.
