The Highlights of Benedetto Pistrucci Three-Coin Gold Set brings together three gold coins that celebrate one of the greatest engravers to have worked at The Royal Mint. Two historic coins are featured in this set, including an 1820 George III Sovereign and an 1821 Sovereign. Both of these historic Sovereigns feature the work of Pistrucci on the obverse and reverse. Although Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon design is more commonly associated with The Sovereign, this beautiful design also featured on the 1818 crown as part of William Wellesley Pole’s Great Recoinage.
A 2023 two-ounce gold coin from our Great Engravers Collection is also included as part of this set, which remasters the beautiful design that first featured on the 1818 crown. This differs to the original design that first appeared on the 1817 Sovereign, with the saint’s spear being replaced by a sword. The 2023 coin features the coinage portrait of His Majesty The King on the obverse, as designed by Martin Jennings.
