As the original maker of British coins, The Royal Mint has struck every UK coin of Her Majesty The Queen’s reign and we are marking the Platinum Jubilee with one of the largest coins we have ever made. By combining traditional skills with the use of innovative technology, we have created a momentous five-kilo gold Proof coin.
A Celebration of 70 Years
As Her Majesty The Queen becomes the first British monarch to reach a Platinum Jubilee, the nation is celebrating this latest milestone in Her Majesty’s record-breaking reign. Exclusively struck for this momentous occasion, this luxurious edition features an elaborate reverse design by John Bergdahl, which shows the royal cypher surrounded by floral emblems of the United Kingdom, whilst the obverse bears a portrait design reminiscent of the 1953 coronation crown created by Gilbert Ledward RA.

A Majestic Design
To commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s remarkable Platinum Jubilee, we have made two five-kilo gold Proof coins . Comprising 999 fine gold and finished to Proof standard, these are exquisite pieces, crafted with traditional minting skills and the latest technology.
Making the Masterpiece
Our Masterwork specialists have spent over 300 hours of high-speed precision milling machining and approximately a further 90 hours per side frosting and hand polishing the unique five kilo gold coin to proof standard. The proof standard showcases John Bergdahl’s obverse design of the equestrian portrait of The Queen, which is reminiscent of the 1953 coronation and 2002 jubilee crowns, encircled by the royal garter and the elaborate reverse design includes the dates 1952 and 2022 with Her Majesty The Queen’s insignia surrounded by beautiful rococo elements, scrolls and florals.
The Mark of a Monarch
There is perhaps no greater symbol of royalty than acrown and this emblem of monarchy appears on the reverse of this Platinum Jubilee piece in the form of a privy mark. Found beneath the left of the scroll featuring the dates of Her Majesty’s reign, it depicts the St Edward’s Crown with the number ‘70’ beneath.
