Why does the edge inscription on the £2 and £1 coins sometimes appear "upside down"?
There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way for an edge inscription to appear on a £1 or £2 coin. The inscription is applied to the coin blank before the coin is struck, so its orientation depends on how the blank enters the coin press. This means the inscription can appear either way up.
